28 June [1914]. Don left yesterday noon … to be gone till Monday. He needs the change very much …. Wrote Mary Boweker this morning till dinner after which I went to Mrs. Lewis’s room, and had a good visit till five when we walked over to the Rathaus Park and Mrs. Lewis … chairs. We had a lovely outlook and chat and strolled over to the Volks Garten. Boys and men were selling “extras” before we left the Rathaus but I could only make out the word Tod and concluded it was the aviation meet and probably an accident.
