.... I did nothing much all Sunday, remaining in bed a good deal of the day. Edward wrote suggesting that he & I should spend two or three days in London during the vac. as I have not been able to go to Folkestone to see him.
Monday March 15th
Mother went off by the early train to London & I had my breakfast in bed thinking how different every-thing was from last year this time, when I set off feeling very miserable to take the Somerville scholarship examination. But a much worse misery was in store for me to-day. I had just finished my breakfast when the letters came – one from Roland which had been sent on from Somerville. He has obtained his wish at last, and is off to the front in about 10 days’ time. He has been
